Hobbies

Hobbies are a great way to escape from the day to day stresses of life. They provide a different focus, allow you to have some time to yourself, and can be very rewarding. If you love the idea of a hobby but feel that you aren’t perhaps able to pursue one due to restrictions at home, here is some good news. There are loads of hobbies you can do at home! Here are 3 of them.

Quilting

Quilting has been around for centuries and is still a popular hobby for people of all ages. It’s a very simple process too. A top piece is ‘quilted’ with batting and a base layer, binding is added, and the quilt is complete. There are various methods of making quilt tops. One is hand piecing. This involves hand stitching onto different shapes of paper, such as hexagons. Depending on the size of the pieces you use, it can take hundreds of hexagons to make a quilt top. Once they are all sewn, the paper pieces are removed and the hexagons are sewn together and then quilted.

An alternative method is machine quilting, which is far quicker. The tops are made with different patterns using a sewing machine then the machine is used again to quilt the layers together. Free motion quilting and stitch in the ditch are two of the most popular quilting methods. They look amazing once completed and making them can be extremely therapeutic.

Beer making

If you have already tried some of the most popular beers around the world, why not try making your own? It’s not only fun but is a great way to experiment with different flavors until you find a flavor that hits your sweet spot. Find a home brewing supply shop near you, and you should be able to pick up a starter kit for around $200. It should include all the ingredients and equipment you will need to get started. The great thing about making beer is, there isn’t a specific time of year that works best so you can get started any time you like. The whole process from the beginning to the beer being consumable can take several weeks, so it is a hobby that requires a little bit of patience.

Running

If you have a big enough space at home, a treadmill is a great way to take up running without having the leave the house. Whilst many people prefer to run outside, for others, it doesn’t appeal. A treadmill will allow you to feed your passion whenever you feel like it without being dependant on decent weather. Many treadmills come with video and audio capabilities to make the experience even more enjoyable. You can listen to music, watch a movie, or even create a landscape background on screen so it feels like you are running outdoors. Running can do wonders not only for your fitness but for your mind. It’s a great means of escape and a very popular hobby the world over.
