5 Preventive Medical Examinations when you hit your 40s
1. Blood tests
Regular basic blood tests are absolutely essential. The annual morphology and other diagnostic tests will allow for the early detection of many diseases, including cancer, and thus implement effective treatment. Regularity is of great importance in this respect as many diseases are asymptomatic for a very long time, and as time pass, the treatment is difficult. The basic blood tests can be performed in many laboratories, but it is worth getting ready for blood drawing: some of the tests require, for example, refraining from eating.
2. Eye examination
Regular eye examinations will help to detect not only myopia or farsightedness but also more serious diseases. It includes not only a basic eye examination but also a fundus examination to determine the possible risk of glaucoma. In case of people who have not suffered from any eye diseases so far, a preventive examination carried out every 1-2 years should be enough. However, those wearing glasses should have their eyes examined at least once a year.
3. Hearing test
Over the years, your hearing may deteriorate. Thanks to the current possibilities of medicine, we are not forced to live in uncomfortable conditions related to poor hearing: instead, we can perform, for example, the best online hearing test. If the results indicate the need for a visit to the otolaryngologist – an appointment should be made as soon as possible. Some ailments are easy to eliminate and definitely improve the quality of life. Note: like the rest of the tests on this list, you should also have your hearing regularly tested to avoid significant deterioration of your hearing over a short period of time.
4. ECG
Electrocardiography is a diagnostic test that is commonly used to detect heart conditions. When you hit your 40s, it is worth having such test done at least once every 2-3 years. This will allow the detection of possible cardiovascular diseases at an early stage and the implementation of treatment.
5. Cancer prevention
In addition to the tests mentioned above, it is also worth implementing tests that will detect cancer at an early stage. Particular attention should be paid to diseases that appeared in the immediate family, and preventive examinations should include, among others, gastroscopy, X-ray of the chest, ultrasound of the abdominal cavity, as well as testing for the presence of occult blood in the stool. A set of such tests will allow to confirm possible neoplastic diseases even before any symptoms appear.
The tests mentioned above are prophylactic, which means it is worth carrying them even if we do not suffer from any unpleasant ailments. However, if you are concerned about something, you should go to a doctor who will also prescribe other additional diagnostic tests.
